The Long Beach Bombers are proud to announce the acquisition of 1997-born defenseman, Ryan Foster. The 5’8, 195lb, left-shot is from Clovis, California. He played the first 11 games of the WSHL season with the San Diego Sabers, recording 1 assist and 17 penalty minutes. Foster groomed his game in the Capital Thunder Youth Hockey Club, in Sacramento.

The 19 year-old Foster is eligible to return for the 2017-2018 WSHL season, another added bonus to the addition. He will add depth to the Bombers defensive group, along with a competitive edge and physicality. In fact, his lone fighting major of the season was against Long Beach’s massive power forward, “Big Bob” Roslund, who stands 6’2, and weighs 220lbs. Foster represents the 4th California-born player on the Long Beach roster.

Long Beach Bombers Head Coach and General Manager, Chris White, commented, “We have been looking to add a defensemen all season, and this should be a great fit for us. I liked the way Ryan played against us, as he was one of the few players that didn’t back down, and played until the final buzzer, despite the lopsided score. With 38 games remaining, plus playoffs, Ryan should have the opportunity to integrate himself into our veteran group, and prove his value to the roster. I am excited to see what Ryan can add to our defensive corps, and how he will develop over the next several months. It was certainly a major factor, and benefit, that we could potentially have him for multiple seasons."

Q & A with Ryan Foster:

With 11 WSHL games under your belt, what can you tell us about your transition into junior hockey?

It's been an interesting transition, to say the least. I came from Midget AA where the league isn't as big or physical, and playing against older guys isn't something I'm too used to.

You recently played 2 games against the Long Beach Bombers (as a member of the San Diego Sabers). What were your thoughts about your new team?

Long Beach is a big, physical, and very skilled team. The Bombers moved the puck very well and always found a way to get the pass to the open man.

What are some strengths of your game that Bombers fans can expect to see when #21 is on the ice?

I like to think I play a stay-at-home defensive game, while throwing the body around whenever I get the chance.

What are your expectations for your move up the Standings ladder, to one of the WSHL's top teams?

I hope to keep the first place position and make a push for the Thorne cup.

What are your individual and team goals for this season, and beyond?

Individually, I hope to get better in all aspects of the game, from being more confident with the puck, to just playing stronger defense. In the future, I hope to move onto a good college program to play hockey and get a great education, at the same time. Team-wise, I hope we're able to capture the Western Division title, then onward to the Thorne Cup.
